Nepali woman slapped death penalty in Kuwait, rights activist claim innocence
A Nepali woman domestic help has been slapped death penalty in Kuwait on the charge of murdering a local woman, according to rights activist working for women's welfare. In a programme on Nepali migrant labourers organised in the capital Wednesday the right activists also called upon the government to ask the Kuwait government to grant an amnesty to the accused woman.
According to representatives of Maiti Nepal, United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) including various NGOs, Dolma Sherpa of Sindupalchowk was handed down the death penalty by the Kuwaiti court. A mother of a three year old son, Sherpa's husband is reported to have been working in Iraq.
"After Kuwait-based rights activist Raju Nagpal informed us through email about the court verdict this week we sent letters informing about Sherpa's plight to Embassy of Saudi Arabia, the labour department and the concerned ministry," said Bijaya Rai Shrestha of Paurakhi, an NGO working for women, "We are awaiting its reply."
Sherpa has been languishing in the central jail in Kuwait for the last five months for allegedly murdering a wife of her employer.
"Charging that hair strands found on the hand of the deceased woman were that of Sherpa, the police had filed a case against her. Based on this evidence the court slapped the death penalty after investigating Sherpa's finger prints," Shrestha said, adding that she still doesn't have any idea what kind of court handed down the sentence or whether there was a provision for appeal against the court's verdict.
Claiming that Dolma was innocent since her blood test report did not establish proof, Nagpal in an email he wrote to Shrestha has said, "She is crying, thinking the fate of her child back home and pleading for her life."
It must be mentioned here that the government had imposed a ban in 1998 against Nepali women working in the gulf after Kami Sherpa, a Nepali women domestic help, killed herself while fleeing a rape attempt in Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, three Nepali women are languishing in the central jail of Saudi Arabia from the past few months.
Those who are serving time in the Riyadh located jail are Kavita Karki of Jhapa, Hira Thapa of Kaski and Bimala Timalsina of Chitwan. It was not immediately clear on what charges they were put in jail.
Despite the government ban, an estimated 10,000 Nepali women work in Saudi Arabia mostly as domestic help.

We feel very unpleasant that Dolma (Lama) Sherpa who was working as a domestic helper in Kuwait gets a death penalty. Five months have been passed away that the concerned body is not extending any favorable step for her rescue. Our humble request to Amnesty International, Human Rights Organizations, Foreign Ministry, Concerned Embassies, NGOs, INGOs, Medias and the Concerned Government Departments and Ministries that please take necessary steps to save her from the death sentence.
As there is a saying “make hay while the sun shines” and “hit the iron when it is hot.” Therefore, the most important moment is now, so do not make delay for right action.
We appeal to all the concerned authorities to begin legal step to request a higher law court in Kuwait to consider again a decision made by a Court in Kuwait, especially in order to reduce or prevent a punishment to Dolma Sherpa (Lama).
If we get late, undesirable consequences might follow to take place in Nepal, like the events happened in Iraq last year.
Let’s join our hands to save ones life and remain Nepal in peaceful condition.
Hope that the concerned would immediately consider putting forward the right action.

I appreciate; a patriotic heart is within you. Yesterday, at the same time I have already sent mail to all addressees. She faced a very big dramatic incident which completely a false blame charged on innocent employee. She doesn’t even know how & why the case petition filed by the police. Please try your best with human rights organization in Korea as soon as possible.
Everyone guess that murderer had co-operated the police and turned towards Dolma as if she had murdered. Intimate evidences were deliberately reinforced.
If the Nepal Government and other human rights organization have taken immediate action all eleven Nepalese people would have save from Iraq.
We expect a favorable news of her reduce of punishment.
This is truly a sad sad news for us. I am in shock to hear this. I don't know how the law works in Saudi Arabia, but no one deservs a Death Penalty especially if you are away from home. How can you give a foreign national Death Penalty? They can deport her and let Nepal government handle the case. Again we don't know the Saudi Law.
I think we should all take part in some ways to help Ms/Mrs Dolma Sherpa.In addition to NYTIMES, I emailed everyone from the list provided in this website. Honestly, I think it is a false blame and she just happened to be an easy target. I would like to find out more information in this matter. I will do my research but if anyone has any better access to any site, please let me know.

Nepali entrepreneur assigned to report on Sherpa's case
Nepal's embassy in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh on Thursday assigned a Kuwait-based Nepali to report on the condition of Doma Sherpa who was slapped the death sentence by the Kuwaiti court on charges of murder.
Quoting Lok Bahadur Thapa, first secretary at the Riyadh based embassy, Kantipur daily said Mitra Sinjali, a Nepali restaurant entrepreneur in Kuwait, has been asked to assess the court procedure and consult with the administration on the death penalty handed down to the Nepali woman from Sindhupalchowk.
Thapa said that they have asked Sinjali to report on the latest developments in Sherpa's case since Nepal doesn't have an embassy or consulate in Kuwait which has more than 25,000 Nepali employed in various jobs. "Hopefully, we will get the latest report on Sherpa's case by Monday," Thapa said.

Nepal Sherpa Loktantrik Sangh together with many other organizations are concerned with this case. I would like to share few information I have obtained until Jan 5, 2008, 10 a.m. I have contacted one of the nearess relative of Dolma Sherpa.He is Phurba Sherpa (kaka sasura of Dolma). Dolma husband Ang Tenjing Sherpa is in Jordan. Dolma's parent inlaws (Sasu and Sasura) are in village.
Dolma's case is first reported to Maiti Nepal about 8 months ago by a unidentified gentelman named Mr Raju Nagpal. Maiti Nepal requested Raju Nagpal to send his contact details but never responded the request.Maiti Nepal contacted Dolma's Kaka Sasura Mr Phurba Sherpa about the incident and told Mr Phurba to inform the Sasura of Dolma. Mr Phurba send message to Dolma's sasura living in the villages but didn't get any reply.
I have tried to meet Anuradha Koirala of Maiti Nepal today but she is busy today. I am planning to meet her tomorrow as early as possible and find out more details. As per Mr Phurba Maiti Nepal has received about 4/5 emails form that unidentified gentelman Mr Raju Nagpal regarding Dolma's case.
Our Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan knows about the incident and has already in contact with concerned diplomatic channels. No information did obtain through diplomatic channels due to holidays there. I am also planning to meet Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan after receiving necessary details from the family and Maiti Nepal.
I am thinking to suggest the following points to the Foreign Minister:
1. Try to establish contact with Dolma through Nepalese Embassy by late sunday and obtain all the details.
2. May be send a Nepalese lawyer (who is expert of international laws) there and find our legal options regarding the Dolma's case.
3. Find out the contact address of Dolma's husband in Jordan through Nepalese Embassy. If necessary call him back to Nepal to follow up his wife's case.
4. Immediate take cae of Dolma's baby.
5. Find out which agency send Dolam there.
6. Find out why Maiti Nepal didn't flash the news as soon as it came into their notice and what did they do after receiving the email from Raju Nagpal.
If you have more suggestion, please do send me. I will share the information I obtain from my meeting with Maiti Nepal and Foreign Minister. thanks

I found out that Kuwait actually sentenced 4 Nepalese nationals to death in 2006.How can they sentenced Dolma to death just based upon fingerprints and hair that was found in the body?!?!? Her blood test didn't prove that she did it...
The picture published in the Kantipur is of another Dolma. She is also a relative of the jailed Dolma. Kantipur will publish ture picture of Dolama tomorrow. I couldn't paste the true photo of Dolma on this web page due to lack of technical knowledge but however we have given the true picture of Dolma to Kantipur and Kantipur has published in today's paper (Jan 7). Please do see the picture in Today's Kantipur. We met Anuradha Koirala and Uma Tamang (a lawyer) of Maiti Nepal on Jan 6 at 3 p.m.

2. Dolma's Boss's family went on holiday during early summer leaving Dolma, a Philipino maid and an Indian driver named Raju Nagpal to take care of their home. For some reason Dolma and the Philipino maid had fight and later the Philipino maid died. Dolma went on hide for few months but at last she was arrested and charged for murdering the Philipino maid. We don't know yet what are evediences.
3. The Indian driver Raju Nagpal sent an email to Maiti Nepal explaining that Dolma is arrested for murder and had language problem. If steps are not taken on time Dolma could be jailed for life, the driver mentioned in his email sent to Maiti Nepal. Raju did sent few follow up emails.
4. Raju Nagpal mentioned that Dolma is jailed and possible for life imprisonment. Raju Nagpal has NEVER mentioned about DEATH SENTENCE. But we are wondering who spread the news that Dolma got DEATH SENTENCE. We tried to find out the sources of the news of DEATH SENTENCE but we did find none. The news of DOLMA'S DEATH SENTENCE is yet to be verified !
5. Maiti Nepal took only two steps after receiving the emails from Raju Nagpal: First contacted the Kaka Sasura of Dolma Mr Phurba Sherpa and requested him to inform to Dolma's Sasura in the village. Second, sent an email to Nepalese Embassy in Saudi. That's it, nothing more nothing less.
6. Dolma was sent to Kuwait about 3 years ago by a gentelman named Mr Phurba Lama.(don't get confused with the name of Kaka Sasura Phurba Sherpa). This Phurba is Lama and a different guy. Dolma's husband Ang Tenzing Sherpa took Dolma to Delhi and contacted Mr Karpu Lama. Mr Karpu Lama arranged Dolma's travel to Kuwait. Now that Mr Karpo is jailed in Solukhumbu for different case.
7. I met the Mr Phurba Lama and spoke about Dolma's case, he seems quite conerned too. I have requested him to contact the same agency who employed Dolma in Kuwait and asked the agency to find out which jail in Kuwail Dolma is kept. Contact Dolma and find out how is she ? what does she say about the case ? How does she wants to be helped by her relatives to solve the case ? Hire a muslim lawer to look after Dolma's case and suggest us, could we realese Dolma from Kuwait's jail or not ?. I have promised Mr Phurba that Loktantrik Sherpa Sangh will pay the possible cost for the mentioned tasks. If necessary we will send the money inadvance. He is trying to contact his agency in Kuwait. He will let me know as soon as he speaks with the agency in Kuwait.
8 . THE GREAT CHALLENCGE IS TO CONTACT DOLMA IN KUWAIT JAIL. IF ANY ONE OF YOU HAVE FRIENDS IN KUWAIT' PLEASE REQUEST THEM TO FIND OUT DOLMA IN ONE OF THE JAIL IN KUWAIT.
9. Nepalese Foreign Ministry have already sent a representative to Kuwait from Nepalese Embassy in Saudi. So far no reply from there. I spoke to Personal Secretary of Foreign Minister Mr Sagar Nepal. Let's cross our finger crossed for a news to be break by tomorrow.

Relatives of Dolma Sherpa of Gumba VDC 8 in Sindhupalchowk district, who has been reportedly sentenced to death in Kuwait, have appealed to the government to take initiatives to save her life.
The report about Dolma, who was working as a domestic help in Kuwait, being sentenced to death was carried in the newspapers recently.
Talking to this daily, Dolma's uncle-in-law Furwa Sherpa said: "It is extremely unfortunate. The whole village is unhappy. The government should ensure her repatriation."
Born in Gorkha district, Dolma was married to Angtenzing Sherpa in Gumba, Sindhuplachowk. After she left for Kuwait, Angtenzing left for Iraq for employment.
Furwa said only Dolma's father-in-law Ramtenzing, mother-in-law and Dolma's five-year-old son are staying in Kyangsing village in the VDC.
Dolma's in-laws are poor. The village is located in the snowbound region and the family is barely able to garner enough to ensure three months' supply of food.
Bhagwati Nepal, coordinator of Mahila Aatmanirbharta Kendra, Melamchi, urged all government and non-government organisations to exert pressure on the government to save Dolma's life.
Raju Nagpal, an Indian national conveyed to Maiti Nepal the news of Dolma's arrest when she fled after the Filipino woman died. Dolma had been working in her house for the past 18 months.
The Sherpa Sangh has appealed to the government to secure her release, get her husband to return home and arrange for her son's education.
Meanwhile, a report from Dang said Nepalese working in Qatar were alarmed at the news of the Dolma's death sentence. Acting general secretary of Qatar Nepali Unity Society, Hemanta Waiba, issuing a press release through e-mail has regretted the incident.
The press release has urged the government to save Dolma's life saying that the news reports were that she was innocent, but could not protect herself due to language barrier. As there is no Nepali diplomatic mission in Kuwait, the government should immediately take initiative to find out facts, the society urged.

1. One of the Nepalese Embassy Rep Mr Lok Bahadur Thapa is in Kuwait. So far no words from the Government Rep Mr Thapa from Kuwait. Foreign Minister Ms Sahan Pradhan gave live interview on Radio Sagarmatha at 8 pm on Jan 8, 2008.

I have been reading this thread with great interest. Not knowing anything until now, I was reserving my judgments and thoughts.
Kuwait was freed from the invasion of Saddam Hussein and his government by president George Bush Senior. For this reason, I think the best option in this case, is to appeal to President Bush directly for his intervention for the freedom of Dolma Sherpa. This can be done globally by all Sherpa affiliated organizations through United States of America Embassies. I would like to suggest the United Sherpa Association of New York, The Sherpa Kyidug to take the first step to write an appeal to US Senators and the president, George Bush. The sooner we can do this, the better chance there is for Dolma’s freedom.

Please kindly help to find where is Dolma now in Kuwait. Sherpa Community, the government of Nepal and many others are working very hard to request the Kuwaitian Government for an Amnesty.
She is a mom of three years old baby and is from a very poor family in Nepal.

KATHMANDU, Jan 9 - A Nepali diplomat established contact with Kuwaiti foreign ministry officials on Tuesday over the case of Dolma Sherpa, on whom a local court slapped the death sentence recently.
According to Hira Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), an official from Saudi Arabia based Nepali mission, Lok Bahadur Thapa met and requested officials of Kuwati foreign ministry for consular access to Dolma, her lawyer, human right activists, family members of victims and officials of Philippines Embassy in Kuwait, among others.
"He (Lok Bahadur) will seek all possible options to avert the capital punishment to Dolma there," spokesperson Thapa told the Post.
"Providing blood money, as relief to the victim's family to persuade them to withdraw the case, is only an option to avert the death penalty," said Thapa.
Kuwaiti local court handed down a verdict to Dolma, 27, a resident of Gumba-8 of Sindupalchowk for allegedly murdering a Philipino woman in Shamiya of Kuwait.
This is a tragic....Generally, we Sherpa are very peaceful and friendly people. No Sherpa should be facing a death penalty regardless whether is a man or woman. Let's do whatever we can to support her on this case and bring her back to Nepal/home-town safely.
What a terrible tragedy for both the deceased and the accused. Both went to Kuwait to provide for their family at home.
It gives me, and others I am sure, great relief that there are people working around the clock to help save Dolma from the death penalty. I hope with the urging by different concerned and interested groups, that Dolma will have more hope for a fair trial,who knows,even a not guily verdict. I am so happy to hear that the Nepalese government and the community are taking steps to help Dolma.
I am also glad to know that Kaji dai (Kisan) is doing all he can in Nepal with due process and informing our and other
communities around the world. Suggestions and involvement from all members of our community is crucial. Suggestions
by Tshering T. Goperma for donations for fund, Lama Chewang dai's idea of approaching the US Senators and the President,Tenzing bhai's involvemnt in Seoul, Korea and the help by our Nepalese people in Saudi Arabia will help toward finding a better solution to this tragedy.
It seem so improbable that a Sherpa would commit such a heinous crime let alone a Sherpa women. There again, we don't know the whole story. I hope she gets a chance for a fair trial with the help of our government representatives and other concerned human rights activists. Lets hope she is not the scape goat.
I too contacted Amnesty International (We have been contributing to Amnesty International for the past 20 years)
here in Toronto, Canada. They told me that Amnesty takes death penalty very seriously and advised me to contact the International Secreteriat. This is because local Amnesty groups do not advocate for the country they are in, for reasons of security.
Time is of the essence. So the sooner our community and organizations from around the world appeal to the International Secreteriate at Amnesty International the better.

Filipina domestic worker Marilou Ranario was sentenced to death in 2005, and had her sentence confirmed by the Court of Cassation on 27 November 2007. The sentence will now go before Kuwait’s head of state, the Amir, for ratification. This typically takes between two weeks and a month, after which, if the sentence is ratified, Marilou Ranario will be in imminent danger of execution.
Marilou Ranario was arrested on 11 January 2005, the day after her employer was stabbed to death. According to her lawyer, Marilou Ranario suffers from paranoia; she had been repeatedly ill-treated by her employer, and reportedly stabbed her because she feared further abuse.
On 28 September 2005 she was sentenced to death by a lower court, and on 17 February 2007 the Appeal Court rejected the appeal that is automatically filed on behalf of all prisoners who are sentenced to death. Marilou Ranario’s case was then referred to the Court of Cassation, which has now upheld her sentence.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In 2006, at least 10 people were executed in Kuwait for murder and drug-smuggling. At least six others were under sentence of death. Amnesty International opposes the death penalty in all cases as the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment, and a violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send appeals to arrive as quickly as possible, in Arabic, English or your own language:
urging the authorities to commute the death sentence imposed on Marilou Ranario;
acknowledging that governments have a right and responsibility to bring those who commit violent crimes to justice, but expressing unconditional opposition to the death penalty as the ultimate violation of the right to life;
calling on the authorities to commute all outstanding death sentences in Kuwait to more humane alternatives;
reminding the authorities of the growing international trend towards abolition of the death penalty, and urging them to establish a moratorium on executions as a first step towards complete abolition, in accordance with the recommendations of the United Nations Human Rights Committee.

KATHMANDU, Jan 10 - An official from the Nepali mission based in Saudi Arabia met Dolma Sherpa, who is languishing at central jail in Shamiya, Kuwait, convicted of murdering a Filipino woman.
Following the death sentence handed down to her by a local court, Lok Bahadur Thapa of the Nepali mission was deputed Monday to assess her situation and seek options for saving her life.
"Thapa met Dolma at the central jail today after being allowed consular access by the Kuwaiti foreign ministry," Prakash Kumar Subedi, deputy chief of mission at the Nepali embassy in Riyadh, told the Post Wednesday.
But his meetings with court officials and other government officials have been postponed for the next three days as Kuwait is observing the Islamic new year. Subedi did not elaborate on matters discussed between Dolma and Thapa.
At a time when voices are being raised from different quarters to save Dolma from the death sentence in Kuwait, locals from her village in Gumba village development committee remain uninformed about her plight

I am writing to express my concern over the Nepalese press report in Kathmandu and in Hong Kong that Ms. Dolma Sherpa, 24, from Nepal, has recently been sentenced to death in Kuwait.
The Nepalese community in Hong Kong is deeply saddened by the news.
As reported at http://www.thehimalayantimes.com/fullstory.asp?filename=aFanata0va2qzpba7Ra7qa.axamal&folder=aHaoamW&Name=Home&dtSiteDate=20080108 , she is innocent and not capable of defending herself due to the language barrier. It further reports that she is from a poor family and has a five-year-old son.
Your Excellency, her execution violates the right to life as proclaimed in the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This sentence is particularly alarming for the fact that she may not have been represented properly. I appeal to you to take an urgent initiative to save her life and to provide further case information to the Hong Kong Nepalese community.

I would like to draw your attention to the case of Ms. Dolma Sherpa, 24, from Nepal, who has reportedly been sentenced to death in Kuwait.
Since Ms. Sherpa does have language barrier (majorrity of Nepalese Domestic workers do not speak English) and the Nepalese Consulate officials were not involved until it was reported in the press, the verdict itself is questionable.
I have written an email to the Kuwaiti Consul General in Hong Kong - CC to Amnesty International Hong Kong and the Consulate General of Nepal in Hong Kong - which you will find at

The issue here is, did she or did not commit the crime? How is her case going to be investigated? It is a common knowledge that poor people and women don't get a fair chance to prove their innocence in the Middle Eastern countries. That is not to say she could not have committed the crime. I do hope when she meets the government reresentatives from Nepal, she will get an opportunity to assert herself.
KATHMANDU, Jan 15 - Saudi Arabia based Nepali mission said on Monday that incarcerated Dolma Sherpa who has been slapped with a death sentence for alleged murder has appealed against the verdict in an appellate court of Kuwait.
"She has appealed to the appellate court against the verdict of a lower court," said Prakash Kumar Subedi, deputy chief of mission, talking to Post.
The mission had deputed Lok Bahadur Thapa, first secretary, last week to Kuwait to find out facts about plight of Dolma, who has been languishing in Shamiya central jail of Kuwait.
According to Subedi, Thapa met Dolma, Kuwaiti officials, rights activists, officials at Kuwait based Embassy of the Philippines and lawyers who are following the case.
After my email sent to the NRN Community, these days I am getting many many emails from middle east and all over the world. Most of the news are out through online news media.
NRNA organization in UAE has issued statement to save Dolma. Everyone is very sad to learn that one of fellow NRNs, Dolma Sherpa, has been given the death penalty by Kuwaiti court.
NRN president Dr. Upendra Mahato has urged all to join hands and mount a global campaign to save the life of a Nepali sister.
I will let you know more of the activities by NRNs in different parts of the world, especially middle east and Kathmandu.
I was told that, yesterday the first secratary of Nepalesae Embassy Mr. Lok bahadur Thapa returned to Saudi Arabia and told that the case is in prossess and may be until day after tommorrow we will receive some progress. I was informed that Mr. Lok Bahadur thapa told my friend that they are trying to solve this case in any cost.

During my stay in Kuwait, I met Dolma Sherpa twice. Now, we have filed an appeal in the Appealate Court. Now the most important thing to do will be to hire a good lawyer and also get a tanajol from the family of the victim by paying blood money. After we consult with the MOFA, we must proceed to ensure the above to save the life of Dolma.

गैर आवासीय नेपाली संघ राष्ट्रिय समन्वय परिषद, यूएई तथा मध्यपुर्व संयोजक चन्द्रप्रसाद सापकोटाद्धारा हस्ताक्षरित उक्त ज्ञापन पञमा अगाडि भनिएको छ, नेपाल सरकारबाट खाडी मुलुकमा घरेलु कामदारको रुपमा नेपाली महिलालाई जान प्रतिबन्ध लगाएता पनि विभिन्न माध्यमबाट खाडी मुलुक आउने नेपाली महिलाको संख्या दिनानुदिन बृद्धि भइरहेको पाइन्छ ।

हालै जानकारी भए अनुसार कुवेतमा घरेलु कामदारकोरुपमा कार्यरत सिन्धुपाल्चोक जिल्ला निवासी श्रीमती डोल्मा शेर्पालाई ज्यान मारेको अभियोगमा हालै कुवेतको अदालतवाट फाँसीको सजाय सुनाएको छ । केही महिना पहिला फिलिपिन्सकी एक महिलालाई पनि फाँसीको सजाय भएकोमा फिलिपिन्सका राष्ट्रपति स्वयंको कुटनैतिक पहलबाट फाँसीको सजाय माफी भएको व्यहोरा समेत जानकारी गराउछौं उक्त ज्ञापन पत्रमा भनिएको छ ।
श्रीमती डोल्मा शेर्पाको फाँसीको सजाय मिनाहको लागि नेपाल सरकारको ध्यान आकर्षण गराउँदै तत्कालै नेपाल सरकार तथा कुवेत सरकार बीच उच्चस्तरीय कुटनैतिक पहल गरी नीज शेर्पाको जीवन रक्षाको लागि गैर आवासीय नेपाली संघ , राष्ट्रिय समन्वयय परिषद युएई सम्माननिय प्रधानमन्त्री ज्यूमा हार्दिक अपिल गर्दछ । ज्ञापन पत्रमा भनिएको छ ।
Now its time to take some decision regarding Mrs. Dolma Sherpa’s case. As I personally talked with the First Secretary Mr. L. B. Thapa and charge de affairs Mr. Prakash Subedi, Nepalese Embassy Riyadh, this afternoon. The final approach from our side is to appoint a defense lawyer to received court order and handle other legal procedures in Kuwait.
So, now here is question rose up, who will appoint a lawyer for her? The lawyers minimum charges for this kind of case in Kuwait is more than 8000 KD (29300 US$) as per the information from Kuwait, Philipino side are asking for benefits along with blood money which will be more or less 15000 KD ( 54950 US$) in total 23000 KD (84000 US$) approximately.
I already suggested to the honorable Charge de Affairs and the First Secretary of Nepalese Embassy of Riyadh to open a relief fund account either in Nepal or in Riyadh by the name of the embassy to set her free from the hell of Kuwaiti Jail, during my meeting with both of them. We already started a campaign for her relief from Saudi Arabia in war level.
My humble request to all, stop the big talks and starts the do’s from right now before getting any kinds of delay.

Nepalis in US submitted a memorandum to Nepal's permanent representative to United Nations Madhuraman Acharya Wednesday appealing for the safe release of Dolma Sherpa who was sentenced to death by Kuwaiti court for allegedly murdering a woman.
A team of Lopsang Thinley of the Himalayan Society; Chongba Sherpa of Sherpa Kiduk and Karma Gelze Sherpa of Indigenous Federation had jointly submitted the memo to Acharya who promised that he would extend all the necessary help to them.
Lopsang Thinley of the Himalayan Society told Kantipur Daily that he was ready to take whatever initiative needed for the safe release of Dolma Sherpa who is currently serving time in Kuwait jail after being slapped the death sentence by Kuwait's lower court three months ago.
Meanwhile, the daily reported that Dolma's case is currently being reviewed at the appellate court. Prakash Kumar Subedi, Deputy chief of mission of the Riyadh-based Nepali Embassy in Saudi Arabia, confirmed by phone that Dolma's case is currently under review at the appellate court.

KATHMANDU, Jan 21 - The Nepalese Americas Council (NAC), an alliance of some thirty different Nepali-American associations, has appealed to the Kuwait government to commute the death sentence handed down to Dolma Sherpa, a Nepali national working as a domestic help in Kuwait for the last few years.
In a letter forwarded to the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the USA, NAC has sought the ambassador’s attention to Dolma’s case and has appealed to save her life.
“Ms. Dolma Sherpa, a mother of three year old, went to Kuwait as a domestic maid from Nepal because of pressing needs to support her family. Although all details about Dolma’s alleged crimes are not known publicly, we urge that the death sentence be commuted,” reads the letter undersigned by NAC President Dr Ambika Adhikari.
The letter further says that the alteration of the death sentence would allow Dolma a chance to appeal her case which could then follow a due process of law that is transparent and follows the universal declarations of human rights.
“Further, Ms. Sherpa should be extradited to Nepal which does not practice death penalty.”
“We acknowledge that governments have the rights and responsibilities to bring to justice those who commit violent crimes. However, we believe in the sanctity of life and express our unconditional opposition to the death penalty for Dolma,” reads the letter.
Dolma has been languishing in a Kuwaiti central jail at Shamiya for the last seven months on the charge of killing a Filipino woman who worked as a domestic at the house of Dolma's then employer.

While ago, the above massage was posted by Linkan_boy. His point was very much valid and legitimate. To make it easy for all of us concerned, he actually provided us with figures as well. I would have thought people will actually respond to what he had to say. Sadly, nothing so far.
If little monetary contribution we all made will help her to prove her innocence and therefore saves her life, why not? I am sure everyone agrees on this. Even after having this kind of feeling, like myself, I am sure many willing contributors are not sure whom to trust their money with. I wish some trusted organization/s like, - in my case, Sherpa Kyidug USA - take initiative to raise fund to help her. More than anything, I think, those people who are looking to help are looking for proper channel where they can be 100 percent sure that their contribution will be used for the proper cause. Sherpa Kyidug has the moral obligation to take initiative in cases like this. Thank you.

I absulutely agree with you. we hope that you would come up with an effective proposal and plan to raise the fund. lets not keep this just the discussion. Like you said sherpa kyidug has moral obligation to do something for case like this. And i think it should be taken action right away.As i said in my previous posting, only 336 sherpas with 250 dollar each can raise the entire fund. But i think you guys should handle in terms of finding account, transferring money, or hiring defending lawers in Kuwait. ... Please take action right away...... Thanks !!!!
Kaji dai (Kisan) or anyone please advise what is the best way to handle this. We have to make sure the money goes to helping Dolma's cause. I would like to pledge $300. Lets mobilize this matter with an urgency. I certainly believe we can raise the money in no time.
Dolma could be saved from death penalty by two approaches:
1. We could press Prime Miister to write an appeal letter to Amir of Kuwait pleading to spare Dolma from death penality. The Amir can over rule court decision. We urged to Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan to press Prime Minister to write the Appeal Letter to Amir.
2. Last but not least option is through legel process and we need a lot of money for that. Some of our friends have already thought about it. The best way to collect fund would by Sherpa Kyidug USA and all collected fund should be sent through Nepalese Embassy in Saudi Arab. May be all Sherpa Associations all over the world could join hand for this campaign. Thanks
We got to do something and you will have some sort of action. Lets's wait for real action rather than blah!! blah! Is there any possibilities from Nepalese gevernment? I don't think so. There is no doubt about lukla_lhakpa's plan. Like Kisand dai said, Sherpa Kyidug USA is the best way to raise funds, but how about Nepal Government? Yeah! If Sherpa Kyidug USA initiate this matter, that will happen something.
As I wrote before also, please don’t waste your time to think about any other options to save Dolma Sherpa’s life. Kuwait is an Arab country and I would like to remind you all that Arab countries are ruled by Islamic Shariah Court as well as constitutional law, Amir of Kuwait might be over constitutional rule but not over Islamic Shariah Court, if you people are looking for another option then, the one and only another remains option is “ if the family of victim (Filipino Maid’s Family) agreed to spare Dolma without any benefit” anyone there can convince the victim’s family member to spare Dolma without any take and give ?

As per your queries:
1) The case has already been appealed before the Kuwaiti Appellate Court. Once enough fund is collected, the hiring of a lawyer is only a matter of procedure like power of attorney to the lawyer by Dolma Sherpa
and/or the Embassy.
2) The lawyer should be Kuwaiti. Embassy has a short list of Kuwaiti Lawyers.
3) Lawyer costs about 10,000.00 Kuwaiti Dinar (a little more than 36,000 US Dollars). Blood Money depends upon the demand of the family of the victim, i.e. of the family members of the Filipina lady. Once we make an
initial offer we enter into a negotiating process. That is how in Saudi Arabia, we settled Blood Money of two of our girls who were the victims of murder. Embassy believes that the final settlement of the Blood Money may
also be around 10,000.00 Kuwaiti Dinar and we can start negotiating, offering a little less than that amount. In both cases, however, it is highly advisable to maintain a secrecy about the total amount of the money
raised, so that Foreign Ministry/Embassy may request the lawyer and thefamily to accept a lower amount in view of the poor financial condition of Dolma and her relatives.
4) It depends upon the arrangements made by the Foreign Ministry in
Nepal. We will convey your concerns to the Ministry. You may also consult directly with the Foreign Ministry on this matter.
5) As per the sharia law, the possibility of saving the life of Dolma depends totally upon the willingness of the family of the victim to pardon
her, with or without Blood Money. It does not mean that hiring a lawyer and
pleading passionately at the court has less significance. That will

I was wondering if there is any discussion/meeting being held with regard to the fund raising needed to save Dolma Sherpa from being executed in a Kuwait prison. If there is any development, please kindly let everyone know in the Kyidug website. I think this deserves urgent attention from our community and time is running out. If there is anything I can do that you are not able to do due to time restriction, please let me know.
I understand that all of you are very busy at this time due to Losar and other activities. However, this matter needs urgent attention from all quarters of our community, individuals, organizations and so on. I am pretty confident that if Sherpa Kyidug launches an appeal to our community to raise the funds necessary to save Dolma, the community will be happy to support it. To start with, we need to open an account and a deposit method that is easy for all interested parties from around the world. Perhaps, it is also a good idea to assure the donors that any money that is in excess of what is necessary will be used for any similar situation in the future.
We could also approach Sherpa/Nepalese organizations from around the world to start raising the funds.

Are you guys taking any initiative for Dolma Sherpa's case ?? As Dawa Sherpa of Sherpa Kyidug mentioned in his last thread "Sherpa Kyidug has the moral obligation to take initiative in cases like this." We are all eagerly waiting for your initiative for Dolma's case, on the other hand i wouldnt be so surprise if you guys(sherpa kyidug) dont do anything eventually !! I know you guys are busy raising thousands of dollars for sherpa culture center in NY which is good but if we want to preserve our culture and religion, small affort like Dolma's case should be taken seriouslly, and then it will start to make sence of building expensive Sherpa Culture Center. We know that the sherpas in USA are already better off then those who suffers from low wages and risk their lives in Arabian countries, if we neglect and let Dolma die, there is no point of saying we are Bhuddist. Any way... Most importantly we are looking forward to hearing from Sherpa Kyidug USA, initiating its humanitarian affort to save Dolma Sherpa. KATHMANDU, Feb 3 - The government has initiated diplomatic efforts and a process of appointing a defense lawyer to plead on behalf of Dolma Sherpa, who has been slapped a death sentence by a preliminary court in Kuwait for her alleged involvement in the murder of a Filipino woman, senior government officials said Saturday.
"Since appointing a defense lawyer is a must to strengthen her position in court, we have given it top priority," said Shyam Prasad Mainali, secretary at the Ministry of Labor and Transport Management, at a program on the fate of Dolma organized in the capital.
Mainali said that the government is simultaneously initiating the process of arranging blood money, or cash compensation to members of the victim's family, in a bid to pursuade them to show clemency to Dolma.
"The labor minister has sought co-operation from his Filipino counterpart on the sidelines of the fourth ministerial meeting of labor ministers of Asia held in the UAE, to establish contact with the victim's family in the Philipines," Mainali said, adding that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) should follow up on this matter.
He stressed the need to establish a network among Nepalis residing across the world to save Dolma's life.
He also said that his ministry, MoFA and the Department of Labor will be focal points for co-ordinating efforts by government agencies and different non-governmental organizations to spearhead a 'save Dolma' campaign.
Spokesperson of MoFA Hira Bahadur Thapa said the Workers' Welfare Fund, a fund created though levying a certain amount from workers leaving for work abroad, should be utilized to arrange blood money and lawyer's fees.
Ang Tenzi Sherpa, Dolma's husband who returned from Iraq recently, pleaded for Dolma's life and demanded punishment in Nepal according to the law of the land if she is found guilty.
Dolma, who hails from Gumba-8 of Sindhupalchok district, went to Kuwait two and a half years ago to work as a domestic.

मध्याह्न डोल्माको गाउ“ क्याङसिङ पुग्दा नौला मान्छे देखेर गाउ“ले सशंकित देखिन थाले । डोल्माको घर सोध्दा उनीहरूले मुखामुख गरेर जवाफै दिएनन् । पियन कान्छाले उनीहरूकै भाषामा कुरा गरेपछि वातावरण अलि सहज भयो र डोल्माको आ“गनमा पुग्यौं । घरमा ताला लगाइएको थियो । घरमा भएका सासू-ससुरा जंगलमा निगालो काट्न गएको एक साता बितिसकेको रहेछ । उनीहरू त्यतै गोठमा बसेको जानकारी पायौं । गाउ“लेले भने( उनीहरू कहिले आउ“छन्, ठेगान हु“दैन ।
डोल्माको सासू-ससुरामात्र होइन, गाउ“का धेरै मान्छे यस्तै पेसाले बा“च्दै आएका रहेछन् । निगालोको चोया काटेर भकारी बुन्ने र बेच्ने । त्यही पैसाले जीवन गुजारा गर्ने । आम्दानीको भरपर्दो स्रोत नभएकाले पनि किशोर/किशोरी विदेशिएको अनुमान गर्न कठिन थिएन । त्यसकै उपज थियो( डोल्माको विदेश पलायन । गाउ“मा भरपर्दो सञ्चार साधन नभएकाले डोल्माको विषयमा उनीहरूले सही खबर के हो सुनेका रहेनछन् । डोल्मालाई मृत्युदण्डको फैसला गरेको विषयलाई उनीहरूले मारिसकेको बुझेका रहेछन् ।
दर्ुइ दर्जन घरको झुप्प परेको बस्तीबाट डेढ वर्षा आठजना महिला विदेश गएका रहेछन् । तीमध्ये केहीको अवस्था अनभिज्ञ छ, ६० वषर्ीया पेम्वा शर्ेपाले भनिन्( यस्तो गाउ“मा खुट्टा चल्ने को पो बस्छ र ।
Dear Sir,
As I mention before also there is only one way remains to save Dolma Sherpa's life who is held in Kuwaiti jail, got death sentenced from Kuwaiti Lower Court, is to pay the blood money and save her life.
I already post my estimation on Dolma Sherpa's thread in sherpakyidug.org, which is based on the similar cases held in past in Kuwait. As some of our sherpa friends are showing their interest to help Dolma Sherpa by contribution of required donation for the blood money.
Recently, Nepalese Government issued a letter to Nepalese Embassy in Riyadh stating if any community wanna help Dolma Sherpa then concerned embassy will guide them. So Nepalese Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has already requested to Nepalese Embassy in New York to look after sherpakyidug's proposal on Dolma Sherpa's Case.
So, I would like to request sherpakyidug (US) to contact with honorable ambassador of Nepalese Embassy to New York Mr. Madhu Raman Acharya, with matter of Dolma Sherpa's case.

As soon as Kyidug was informed of the matter, the president of the Sherpa Kyidug, USA Mr. Chhongba Sherpa led a delegation to Nepal Mission and submitted a petition regarding Mrs. Dolma's Case with a copy to be forwarded to the Prime Minister of Nepal, Foreign Minister, Prime Minister of Kuwait and various other Human Rights organization.
The Ambassador of Nepal Mission assured us of all possible diplomatic help regarding this case. We discussed all available options of how to free Mrs. Dolma.

सिन्धुपाल्चोक गुम्वा गाविस क्याङसिङकी डोल्मा शर्ेपालाई हत्या आरोपमा कुबेतमा मृत्युदण्डको फैसला सुनाईएको छ । पा“च महिनादेखि उनी कुबेतको के न्द्रिय कारागारमा छिन् । उनलाई तल्लो अदालतले मृत्युदण्ड सुनाएको छ । सुभेच्छुक राजु नाग्पालले काठमाडौंको माईती नेपालमार् इमेल पठाएपछि यो घटना र्सार्वजनिक भएको थियो । डोल्माले भाषाको समस्या पनि बेहोरेकी छन् उनको जीवनरक्षाका लागि परराष्ट्र मन्त्रालय, साउदी अरवस्थित दुतावास र माईति ने पालसहित एक दर्जन वढी गैरसरकारी संस्थाले प्रयास थालेका छन् । त्यस्तै आफन्त तथा सर्ेपा संघ लगायतका सघसंस्थाले चासो दिएका छन् ।
डोल्मालाई मृत्युदण्ड सुनाइएको थाहा पाएपछि साउदी अरवस्थित नेपाली दुतावासका प्रथम सचिव लोकवहादुर थापाले कारागारै पुगेर डोल्मालाई भेटेका छन् । दुतावासले उनको स्वास्थ्य राम्रो रहेको जनाउदै उनलाई लगाईएको मुद्वाको अदालती प्रकृयाबारे जानकारी लिएको छ । र् इराक हुदै जोर्डनमा पुगेको भनिएका उनका श्रीमान् सर्म्पर्कमा छैनन् ।
डोल्माले घर मालिक मोहम्मदर् इब्राहिम मोहम्मद अल्दारीकी फिलिपिनो कामदारलाई दर्ुइ वर्षघि छुरा हानी मारेको आरोप लागेको छ । हत्या पछि उनी फरार थिईन्् । उनलाई सामयास्थित नाजी अव्दुल अजिज अहमदको घरबाट पक्राउ गरिएको थियो । मारिएकी महिला कामदारको हातमा डोल्माको केस भेटिएको थियो ।
उपाय केवल दर्ुइ
डोल्मालाई भेटेर फर्केपछि थापाले उनको जीवनरक्षा निम्ति दर्ुइ उपाय रहेको बताएका छन् । 'मृतक फिलिपिनोको परिवारलाई उचित क्षतिपर्ूर्ती दिएर अभियोग फिर्ता लिन लगाउने,' उनले भने, 'अथवा प्रधानमन्त्री स्वयंले कुवेत सरकारसंग कुरा गर्ने ।'
नेपालमा चासो
नेपालमा 'डोल्मा जीवन रक्षा अभियान' सुरु भएको छ । त्यसका सदस्यले पुस २७ गते प्रधानमन्त्री गिरिजाप्रसाद कोइरालालाई भेटी यथास्रि्र पहल गर्न माग गरेका छन् ।
प्रधानमन्त्रीले परराष्ट्र सचिव मार्फ डोल्माको जीवनरक्षाका लागि एम्नेष्टर्ीर् इन्टरनेसनल लगायतका गैरसरकारी संघसंस्थाको सकृयतामा पहल गर्ने निर्देशन दिएका छन् । उनले फिलिपिन्सको दुतावासस“ग सर्म्पर्क गरी क्षतिपर्ुर्तिको सम्भावना खोज्न समेत अह्राएका छन् ।
यसैबीच गैर आवासीय नेपाली संगठन -एनआरएन-ए)ले कुबेतका अमिरसमक्ष डोल्माको जीवनरक्षाका लागि अपील गरेको छ ।
डोल्माको गाउ“
सिन्धुपाल्चोक गुम्वा गाविस क्याङसिङकमा उनको घर बन्द छ । एक साताअघि निगालो टिप्न जंगल गएका डोल्माका सासुससुरा घर फर्केका छैनन् । गाउ“की चेलिले म ृत्युदण्ड पाएकोबारे सिङो गाउ“ बेखवर छ । उनी कुन देशमा छिन् र किन मृत्युदण्ड दिइयो भन्ने गाउ“का कसैलाई थाहा छैन । केहीले रेडियोमा समाचार सुने का छन । ती डोल्मा आफ्नै गाउूकी हुन/होईनन् त्यो पनि उनीहरुलाई पत्तो छैन ।
डोल्माकी छिमेकी ६० बषिर्य पेम्वा सर्ेपाले गाउ“बाट धेरै महिला विदेश जाने आउने क्रम चलिरहने भएकाले को कहा“ छ कसैलाई चासो नहुने बताइन् । पेम्वा भन्छिन्- 'विबाह गरेर आएको दर्ुइ वर्षम्म डोल्माले राम्रै काम गरेकी थिई । छोरा पाएर शहर पसेकी अहिलेसम्म फर्केकी छैन ।' सदरमुकाम चौताराबाट दर्ुइ दिनमा पुगिने तिव्बत सिमावर्ती गुम्वा गाविसको विकट वस्तीका धेरै घरमा ताल्चा लागेको छ ।
आलु मात्र उत्पादन हुने गुम्वाका अधिकाश बासिन्दा धेरै समय जंगलका गोठमा बिताउ“छन् । थोरैका घरमा रेडियो छ । पर्ूव गाविस अध्यक्ष तर्ीथबहादुर लामाले गुम्वा गाविसका बोल्दे, क्याङसिङ, पाङगार्पू बस्तीका धेरै महिला विदेशीएको बताए । उनका अनुसार ती गाउ“मा महिला विदेश पठाउने दलाल सकृय छन् । दलालहरुले पासपोर्ट बनाईदिन समेत सहयोग गर्दै विदेश पठाउने गरिरहेका छन् ।

कुवेतको अदालतले सिन्धुपाल्चोककी डोल्मालाई मृत्युदण्डको फैसला सुनाएलगत्तै उनको ज्यान जोगाउन आग्रह गर्दै महिलाहरूको एउटा लस्कर परराष्ट्र मन्त्रालय पुग्यो। 'डोल्मा बचाऊ अभियान'मा अहिले ती महिलाहरूलाई दुई दर्जनभन्दा बढी मानवअधिकार संस्थाहरूले साथ दिइरहेका छन्। फलतः डोल्माको जीवनरक्षाका लागि पहल गर्न सरकार अग्रसर भएको छ। राष्ट्रिय आदिवासी जनजाति महिला सञ्जालको व्यानरमा शीतलनिवास पुग्ने ती महिलाहरूको नेतृत्व गरेकी थिइन्, सञ्जालकी अध्यक्ष लक्की शेर्पा (३३) ले। उनी भन्छिन्, “विदेशमा नेपाली महिलालाई मृत्युदण्ड दिन लागिएको सुनेर हामी स्तव्ध भयौं र उनको बचाऊ अभियानमा लागिहाल्यौं।”
लक्की सामाजिक अभियानमा संलग्न भएको एकदशक बित्न लाग्यो। यस्ता गतिविधिमा संलग्न हुनुलाई उनी एउटा शिक्षित महिलाको कर्तव्य ठान्छिन्। उनले यो कालखण्डका धेरै समय आदिवासी जनजाति महिलाहरूको अधिकारका लागि खर्चेकी छिन्। अधिकारकर्मीको रूपमा होस् वा विषयविज्ञ भिजिटिङ प्रोफेसरको रूपमा; उनीहरूको अवस्थालाई थुप्रै अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय मञ्चहरूसम्म पुर्याउन सफल लक्की नेपालबाट एसिया प्रशान्त क्षेत्रको आदिवासी जनजाति महिला सञ्जालमा प्रतिनिधित्व पनि गर्छिन्।
शेर्पा समुदायका पहिलो प्राध्यापक श्यामसुन्दर शेर्पाकी छोरी लक्की अध्ययनको हिसाबले अर्थशास्त्री हुनुपर्ने हो। अर्थशास्त्रमा प्रथम श्रेणीमा स्नातकोत्तर उनी आफ्नो परिचय महिला अधिकारकर्मीको रूपमा स्थापित हुनु परिस्थितिको बाध्यता ठान्छिन्। भन्छिन्, “उत्पीडनमा परेका आदिवासी जनजाति महिलाहरूको आवाजलाई माथि उठाउन यो क्षेत्र रोजेकी हुँ।”
कुवेत सरकारले मृत्युदण्ड सुनाएकी डोल्मा शर्ेपाका बारेमा तपाईलाई पछिल्लो जानकारी के छ ?
हो, मैले अनेक प्रयासमा डोल्मालाई दर्ुइपटक जेलमा भेट्ने मौका पाएको छु । ती भेटमा केही खानेकुरा, लत्ताकपडासमेत दिए । प्रहरी प्रमाण र अदालती निर्ण्र्ााआधारमा उनलै फिलिपिनो युवतीलाई हत्या गरेकै पुष्टि भएको छ । मृतक युवतीको हातमा भेटिएको कपालको डीएनए परीक्षणमा डोल्माको डीएनए मिल्दो देखियो । अब यसबेला एउटै बाटो भनेको 'ब्लड मनी' हो । मृतक युवतीका घरपरिवारले माग्ने ब्लड मनी बुझाउन सकेमा डोल्माको जीवन रक्षा हुन सक्ने देखिन्छ । तर यसका लागि पहल गर्ने समय एकदमै थोरै रहेकाले जतिसक्दो चाडो सरकारी पहल थालिनर्ुपर्छ । ब्लड मनी उठाउनका लागि गैरआवासीय नेपाली संघलगायतले अभिरुचि देखाएका छन्, यसमा तदारुकता हुनर्ुपर्छ । अझै ढिलाइ हुने हो भने डोल्माको जीवन बचाउमा असफल बनिने संकेत देखा परिसकेको छ ।

KATHMANDU, Feb 17 - The government on Sunday called for financial aid from all parties to save Dolma Sherpa, who is facing a death sentence in Kuwait for an alleged involvement in a murder.
Issuing a press release, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested help from both Nepalis residing in the country and abroad for financial assistance.
A total of 5 million rupees will be needed to pay the lawyer fees and ‘blood money’ to the family of the murdered, the release said.
The Ministry informed that Rs 400,000 has already been collected so far.
Dolma, who hails from Gumba-8 of Sindhupalchowk district, has been slapped a death sentence by a preliminary court in Kuwait for her alleged involvement in the murder of a Filipino woman.

It could be ingenuity or desperation. The mandarins of the Foreign Ministry have decided to pass the hat around to save Dolma Sherpa, convicted by a Kuwait court for the murder of a Fillipino woman. The government has said that it alone can’t keep on spending money on each and every case like Sherpa’s.
As pressure has mounted on the government, the ministry of foreign affairs has released Rs 400,000 as seed money for the purpose and called on individuals, organisations and institutions to raise more money so that the total money collected can add up to Rs 5 million. The government estimates that the total expenditure for hiring defence lawyers and to bring her back to Nepal may cost more than Rs 5 million.
Asked why the government needed to ask for financial help from people, Hira Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson for the ministry of foreign affairs, said: “We had to ask people and organisations for raising funds as the government alone can’t keep on spending money for each such case because one or two such cases occur every year.”
Thapa said the ministry can release all the money needed for the purpose. “But, how long can the ministry keep on spending money on such cases,” Thapa said.
However, the money is not enough to cover the expenses of a legal fight on foreign soil, he added. “It should be taken as the government’s initiative for a Nepali citizen to fight a legal battle on foreign soil,” Thapa said.
An estimated minimum of Rs 5 million is required to meet the expenses to compensate the victim’s family and to hire a defence lawyer. The expenses might increase as the compensation is yet to be negotiated. “We need to provide some money to compensate the victim’s family,” said Thapa.
The government will take the initiative in seeking an amnesty for Dolma from the victim’s family. He said the legal battle would be easier for the release of Dolma, if the family of the victim granted amnesty to her.
Lucky Sherpa, president of National Network of Indigenous Women, and member of ‘Save Dolma Campaign,’ welcomed the government’s initiative. She also urged the government to send a high-level delegation to Kuwait to facilitate the case at the earliest.
She said the Sherpa community at home and abroad is willing to help in her rescue. The final trial of the case is scheduled at the end of this month.

Right now we are just going to collect from each state in USA, We have been just writing down the name of the people who are willing to contribute for dolma. We have been request Sherpa kyidug New york U S A several times to take the in charge of fund raising program here in USA. But they have not shown any interest towards Dolma's campaign. I have been speaking to the Nepalese embassy in Riyad and they have been appealed the case to upper court. I also have been in contact with ang Tenzi sherpa (Dolmas husband in nepal) They are in desperate need of help to save her. You can ask to Ang Tenzi or Lhakpa thinle regarding how they are going to handle this whole case. In nepal they have been doing quite good for raising fund. Ang Tenzing mobile number in Kathmandu is 9851026974. here in colorado we dont have any association, there for we are thinking to hand the money to ang Tenzing when they get closer to needing the money. Or do you (sherpa sanga japan) want to take in charge of the fund raising program ??? Thanks for your kind help and interest.

its so pity that time is running out but INGO's NGO's & even ministriy of foreign affairs , Nepalese Embasies are not clear about who is going to Open an account & which channel they are using to collect the fund, I spoke to Mr.Durga P.Bhandari (First secretery of Nepal Embassy in Belgium) and NRN President in Belgium,and the answer is they are still working on this and in couple of days we will know. Any way, Like Lukla_ Lakpa is colecting money in the U.S ,we can already collect & make it ready to send to any responsible one.

Once again we would like thank everyone for showing your support & concern to save Dolma Sherpa . As stated earlier in our statement we have been very closely following Dolma Sherpa's case and have been in constant touch with the Nepalese Mission in New York of any development that is taking place.
As per our information Dolma's case has been appealed in the higher court but the March 16, 2008 hearing was not done because defense lawyer has not been hired yet.
We also received information about the worldwide fundraising activities going on in different countries and the amount collected so far from different organization and individual amounts to $ 30,000 approx.
The board meeting of United Sherpa Association decided to form 8 member Save Dolma Committee which will be reponsible for raising fund in the US to save Dolma and advising Sherpa Kyidug to make its decision to proper utilization of the fund generated for this purpose.
The first meeting of the Save Dolma Committee held its first meeting at Sherpa Kyidug's office and discuss all the options to raise fund for the release of Dolma Sherpa.
Sherpa Kyidug has already opened a Bank Account for Save Dolma Fund, and the web site for Save Dolma will be ready by this week which will feature all the information on Dolma case, the fundraing activities , information on how you can donate to Save Dolma Sherpa Kyidug's account etc. Pls stay tuned !
We will also be appealing for donation from the local Nepali communities here in NY for the Save Dolma Fund.
The second meeting of Save Dolma committee will be held at 12.30 PM on Sunday at Sherpa Kyidug's office in New York to discuss how we can effectively fundraise at the earliest
Despite our best effort to fundraise for Dolma at the earliest but there are so many legal matters that we have to be aware of as an orgaization before we proceed to do anything. We would like to assure everyone that Sherpa Kyidug, USA will do everything it can to raise fund to save Dolma from Kuwaiti Jail.

Dear Sherp Kyidug USA,
wow....Its great that you have initiated 8 members fund raising committe for Dolma. Believe it or not but we have aready raised 30 thousand dollars around the world, and now all its left is roughly 50 thousand dollars. I have no doubt in my mind that under your leadership, a single community of sherpas in new york sherpa can raise the rest of the fund. Only 360 Nepalese/Sherpa can raise the rest of the fund if each contributes $150.00. Its just that New York has such a large Nepalese/sherpa community and so much potential and absulute hope for saving Dolma's life. At the mean time, what we need to keep in mind though is that the time is running out, and it has to happen rather quickly. Here in Colorado we have such a small Nepalese/sherpa community, however we have raised roghly $4000.00 and i will be sending the fund to Nepali Embassy in Riyadh in the next few days. Thanks for your support and doing a good job.

I got this mail from Sagir ( Who I couldn't recognize) Respected Sirs,Madams I just want to tel you that next month 24-25 Feburay is Independence days of Kuwait and may be end of this month or starting of next month the Government of Kuwait they will make list of peoples who will get general amnesty in this month,and this is chance for Dolma also,if Embassy of Nepal or Government of Nepal will contact for her release may be they add Dolma,s name also in that peoples who will get release in this month,
i just want you again remind your Foreign Ministry to follow up the case and take necessery action to add her name in this list
