The board meeting of United Sherpa Association
has formed an 8-member Save Dolma Committee
which will be responsible for raising funds
in the US to save Dolma Sherpa and advising
Sherpa Kyidug to make its decision for proper
utilization of the fund generated for this purpose.
Save Dolma Committee held its first meeting
at Sherpa Kyidug's office on March 16, 2008
and discussed all the options to raise funds
for the release of Dolma Sherpa. Click here
for minutes of that meeting.
We also received information about the worldwide
fundraising activities going on in different
countries and the amount collected so
far from different organization and individual
amounts to approximately $ 48,000 without adding
funds from the North American Region. (as of
April 14, 2008).
According to Non Resident Nepalese Association
(NRNA), they have been informed by the spokesperson
Mr. Hira Bahadur Thapa of the Foreign Ministry
that the amount required in Kuwait is around
50 Lakh (About 78,000 USD) Nepalese rupees.
Many organizations are working together to save
Dolma. Nepalese government has provided 4 Lakh
Rupees as seed money for saving Dolma. The Government
of Nepal is now ready to hire a lawyer to argue
Dolma's case in Kuwaiti Court. As per our information
Dolma's case has been appealed in the higher
court but the March 16, 2008 hearing was postponed
by a month because a defense lawyer had not
been hired.
We would like to assure everyone that Sherpa
Kyidug, USA will do everything it can to raise
funds to save Dolma from Kuwaiti Jail.
Thank you once again for all your support.
