United Sherpa Association (Sherpa Kyidug, USA) went to the United Nation in New York to participate in the International Recognition of the Day of Vesak at the United Nations Headquarters.
This program was organized by the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Cambodia to the United Nations on Thursday 11 May 2006 at the UN Dag Hammarskjold Library Auditorium. The program started from 3:15p.m. - 6:30 p.m. There was reception afterwards until 7:30 p.m.
Representing Nepal, Nepal Mission's Acting Permanent Representative to the UN aong with his staffs and from Sherpa Community: Mrs. Phurba Sherpa, Mr. Gambu Sherpa, Mr. Pemba Gyalzen Sherpa, Mr.Tenzi Sherpa and Mr. Pasang Dorchi Sherpa were present at the International recognition of the Day of Vesak.
Sherpa Kyidug presented a Lama Dance (Chyam) by Urgen Sherpa (Lama Tulku), Lama Gyalzen Sherpa and the religious instruments were played by Lama Dorjee Salaka,and Lama Tenzi Sherpa.
Mr. Dendi Sherpa performed a solo song and a dance. The performance was excellent which impressed the crowd.
This is the second time Sherpa Kyidug has participated in the internationally recognized the ‘Vesak Day’.
There were distinguished Ven. Monks and Ambassadors from different countries: Cambodia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Republic of Korea, Japan, Vietnam and China.
Welcome remarks were done by H.E. Dr. Widhya Chem, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Message of the His Holiness Preah Mahasumetheathipadey Tep Vong, the Supreme Patriach of Mahnikaya Buddhist Order of Cambodia was conveyed by H.E. Dr. Mok Mareth, Senior Minister, Minister of Environment of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Message of the Secretary-General of the United Nations was conveyed by H.E. Mr. Vijay Nambiar, Under Secretary-General and Senior Adviser to the Secretary-General.
Remarks were done by the Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives of the participant countries.
